Ocean Hour Farm is creating a living laboratory to promote regenerative land care by transitioning this historic farm from conventional management to a holistic, regenerative model. We work with leaders in the region to produce educational workshops and partnerships that highlight systems that are ecologically sound, socially just, and equitable.

Working Together

We believe the best learning happens together. Our educational programming is built entirely on collaboration, partnering with local experts, educators, and innovators to co-design impactful experiences for our region.

On any given day at the farm, you might find us helping farmers analyze soil biology, partnering with students on climate resilience projects, hosting an inspiring lecture, or co-designing field research with local non-profits.

Educational Events & Workshops

As a demonstration site for regenerative agriculture, Ocean Hour Farm hosts workshops and events that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Whether you are joining a regenerative land care tour, diving into fiber literacy, or training in agroforestry, our programming uses every acre of the farm as a teaching tool.

We curate these experiences alongside regional experts and non-profits, putting the spotlight on our community’s collective wisdom.

Working with Farmers & Landscapers

Our workshops and training sessions are designed to address high-priority topics identified by local farmers and landscapers, as well as regional experts. The curriculum is designed to enable adoption and facilitate an exchange of knowledge on regenerative land management techniques.

Research

In collaboration with universities, non-profits, and regional farmers, Ocean Hour Farm conducts research to strengthen the link between land and ocean health. From carbon sequestration studies to upcycling waste into fertilizers, we align scientific inquiry with hands-on management. Our goal is to demonstrate practical pathways that close nutrient loops and reduce pollution—proving that healthy soils lead to healthier seas.

Internships & Apprenticeships

Our mission to educate is woven into each department and is at the core of our impact as an organization. Intern and apprentice placements enable us to contribute to the growth of the next generation of regenerative land managers in Rhode Island and beyond. By offering paid workforce experiences, we aim to progress toward our goals of a more diverse agricultural workforce, a pathway for new farmers, and a workforce with design and ecoliteracy skills.

Young Adults

We build lasting relationships with students through multiple yearly visits, deepening eco-literacy, and empowering them to maximize experiential education. In three years, we have welcomed more than 1,200 students from local schools.

Student activities range from investigating soil biology under microscopes to analyzing and designing nature-based systems, and from planting new landscape features across the farm. This immersive approach cultivates a connection with nature and deepens understanding of our local ecosystem.
